John recently passed away after a battle with cancer.  We offer our sincere sympathies at this time to his friends and family.  He was much admired for his assistance and attitude.. A true friend of OSCA.

Saturday 5 November 2011

What a fantastic night organised by Evan Munt.

It was fantastic to see so many OSCA drivers, crew, families and friends turn up to celebrate an amazing era of racing - long may it continue.

My favourite aspect of the night was watching people watching the door to see who was turning up and the great hugs and big stories which flowed through the night.  The time went too quickly.

A great night of entertaining stories, memorabilia and catching up with friends.

The 2011/12 season will be an historic season of sorts as OSCA celebrate being the first saloon car class in the history of NZ Motorsport to be still successfully running thier series after 40 years. While there have been highs and lows over the years, OSCA has been the mainstay of sport sedan racing in the South Island and continues to give the spectators what they want to see and hear with thier variety of fast V8 powered and turbocharged cars that often look as radical as they perform.

Started originally in defiance to MSNZ when they decided the allcomers class of the late 60's were becoming outdated and dangerous, OSCA was born and became a major influence in South Island racing. Names such as Crowe, Tulloch, Hyde, Munt, McElrea, Osborne and Grindley became synonomous with hard fought racing during the late 70's and 80's while the stories about the pub antics afterwards were just as legendary.

So to celebrate OSCAs' history we are planning to get as many of the cars that ran OSCA during the 70's and 80's back on the grid for a series of demonstration races over the summer of 2011/12 with a proposed meeting at each of the South Island tracks and with a function in Christchurch to relive some of those stories, lies and legends that have made OSCA what it is today.

The following cars have already been contacted and most are willing to get the "old girls" back on the track but if you know of anyone else who may have a car tucked away or if you would just like to share a story or two contact the website and let someone know.

Dates for the 3 race meetings and function will appear on the website at a later date once finalised.
